In this month’s manager spotlight, we talked with Wendy Wilson, the Training Coordinator at Haywire/The Ranch (Front Burner Society).

1. How are you using 1Huddle today? 

We’re using 1Huddle everything from enhancing customer service scores, increasing sales, streamlining communication, launching new products, promotions, and initiatives to leadership development and brand/culture building.


2. What’s your favorite feature on 1Huddle?

Some of my favorite features include games, multilevel games, leaderboards (who doesn’t love a little competition?), reports, and notifications.


3. What’s your favorite part of your job?

“Creating material that excites learning in our team members, igniting brand love, & cultivating an environment where growth & development (both team & individual) are the daily norm.”


4. Why do you do what you do?

“I believe in our brand. I love our people. I’m lucky enough to have a job that revolves around both of those and allows me to create and innovate daily.”


5. What’s your story?

“I moved from Virginia on my own 8 years ago, and the first and only job I applied for was with FB Society, and I’m still there today.

I worked my way up and developed from Server to Office Administrator to Sales Assistant to Sales Manager to Service Manager to Training Manager to, now, Training Coordinator for our entire brand.”


6. What is your best piece of advice you would give to other 1Huddle managers?

“Everyone learns differently, but repetition is key. Encourage daily, repetitive, interaction with existing games to really drill in the information. But consistently add new games to keep it exciting. Buy-in from management is SO important. Your team members will feed off your energy. If you’re not excited about it, they won’t be either. Be 1Huddle’s biggest fan and your team members will be too! Reward those team members that really get involved. Show the team that there are tangible benefits to playing and their mental benefits will quickly start to show as well.”


7. What was the most successful contest you’ve run on 1Huddle and why?

“We do a monthly contest and reward the top players with a trip or outing. This encourages daily playtime throughout the team and, because we split our team members into groups (and the group with the highest player average wins), this also encourages comradery throughout our staff. They urge each other to play regularly.”


8. What was the best game you’ve ever created on 1Huddle and why?

“Our “Pass-On” game series. A manager from each location is responsible for creating a weekly Pass-On. This is just a quick one-sheeter about weekly features, upcoming trainings or meetings, shout-outs for good reviews, expectation reminders, etc. We create a short game about the information in the Pass-On to ensure our team members are reading and digesting that information. Because we upload the Pass-On to the Media tab in the game, our team members can pull it up at any time for reference!”


9. Any predictions for the future of work?

“I see virtual and remote work increasing. For the restaurant industry, there is only so much “virtual” or online work that can be done. But we are moving in that direction in any avenue that we can!”

12. What is your favorite vacation spot?

“Back home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. No better place to decompress and soak in all the natural beauty.”


13. Anything else?

“I am so grateful for this app (1Huddle) and your people (Jared in particular). Encouraging engagement with 1Huddle was my first big “task” in my new role as Training Coordinator. With Jared’s guidance and pointers along the way, we’ve really put our brand on the “training map” within our company. We’ve been able to assess where our team members are knowledge-wise and use this great tool to level everyone up! 1Huddle is really helping us raise the bar when it comes to our expectations of our team members.”
