Our CEO and founder Sam Caucci was interviewed by journalists Alexis Christoforous and Brian Sozzi for the Yahoo Finance segment “Employers must look past Zoom happy hours and think about connection more urgently.”
In case you missed it, here’s a quick recap of the segment’s top highlights:
Companies around the world use 1Huddle’s platform for Diversity and Inclusion training. Providing clients with quality D&I content has always been important to us, and over the past several months many companies have come to 1Huddle to help increase and revamp their D&I training programs.
Yet, millions of workers in every industry don’t have the luxury of being able to stay on top of diversity and inclusion training because they lack access to the technology that would allow them to develop and upskill.
Right now, 40% of the U.S. workforce is frontline and low-income, which means they don’t have a desktop tablet at home to consume traditional eLearning materials.
“So what we’re seeing is a very heightened demand from companies to invest in infrastructure so their important content like diversity and inclusion can meet employees wherever they may be,” Sam Caucci said.
The digital divide goes beyond D&I training and influences every aspect of a worker’s day-to-day life. In 2019, companies were focused on job training and closing skill gaps. But in 2020, companies need to focus on closing the disconnection that occurs today, because the future of work is no longer in the future. It’s here and now.
Employers are beginning to realize keeping people connected is just as important as training and skilling, because employees want to go to work and be excited, motivated, and connected with one another. To keep people connected in 2020 and beyond, employers need to invest in the technologies that keep workers continuously engaged and fired up. Simply setting up weekly Zoom happy hours and company video calls isn’t going to cut it in the long-term.
One of our focuses at 1Huddle is making job training accessible. But for that to happen, companies need to be willing to invest in job training for every worker and think of training as a “need to have” rather than a “nice to have.”
“Finding ways to make communication and job training not just more engaging but more effective starts with using the technology that we all have already at our fingertips,” Sam said. “We saw a lot of companies say: even though we’re not able to keep the same hours, even though we might have to make tough decisions about payroll, we’re going to invest in tech to keep people work-ready.”
If this recap made you want to find out more about how to keep your people connected and prepared for the future of work, you can watch the full Yahoo Finance interview and head over to the 1Huddle newsroom to keep up with the top stories, trends, and articles on all things work.
